Solvent vs. solventless
Live resin, shatter and sauce are made with a solvent that is purged during production. Rosin and hash are solventless, produced with heat, pressure, ice and water. Solventless products usually cost more.
Textures
Badder and budder are whipped and easy to scoop. Sugar and sauce are wet and terpene-rich. Shatter is glassy and brittle. Texture is mostly a handling preference, not a quality ranking.
Potency
Concentrates commonly test far higher than flower, so a rice-grain-sized dab is a normal starting amount.
Temperature
Lower-temperature dabs preserve flavor and are easier on the throat. Very high heat burns off terpenes.
